Last updated: December 26, 2025 | Author: FreelanceTaxPK Editorial Team

Overview

This page explains how FreelanceTaxPK calculates income tax, where we source our data, and the limitations of our calculator. Transparency is important to us, and we want you to understand exactly how our calculations work.

Data Sources

Our tax calculations are based on:

  • FBR Official Tax Slabs: We use the official tax slabs published by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for Tax Year 2025-2026
  • Federal Budget 2025-26: Tax rates are based on the Federal Budget 2025-26, effective July 1, 2025
  • FBR Circulars and Notifications: We monitor FBR circulars for any updates or clarifications

How Calculations Are Performed

For Salaried Individuals

We apply progressive tax slabs:

  • Up to PKR 600,000: 0%
  • PKR 600,001 - 1,200,000: 1% on excess over 600,000
  • PKR 1,200,001 - 2,200,000: PKR 6,000 + 11% on excess over 1,200,000
  • PKR 2,200,001 - 3,200,000: PKR 116,000 + 23% on excess over 2,200,000
  • PKR 3,200,001 - 4,100,000: PKR 346,000 + 30% on excess over 3,200,000
  • Above PKR 4,100,000: PKR 616,000 + 35% on excess over 4,100,000

For Freelancers (Local Services)

We apply different progressive slabs:

  • Up to PKR 600,000: 0%
  • PKR 600,001 - 1,200,000: 15% on excess over 600,000
  • PKR 1,200,001 - 1,600,000: PKR 90,000 + 20% on excess over 1,200,000
  • PKR 1,600,001 - 3,200,000: PKR 170,000 + 30% on excess over 1,600,000
  • PKR 3,200,001 - 5,600,000: PKR 650,000 + 40% on excess over 3,200,000
  • Above PKR 5,600,000: PKR 1,610,000 + 45% on excess over 5,600,000

For Freelancers (Export Services)

Export services use final tax rates on gross income:

  • PSEB Registered: 0.25% of gross income
  • Not Registered: 1% of gross income

Important: For export services, deductions do not reduce the tax amount as final tax is calculated on gross income.

Update Frequency

We update our calculator:

  • Annually: After the Federal Budget is announced (typically in June)
  • As Needed: When FBR releases new circulars or notifications that affect tax rates
  • Regularly: We monitor FBR's official website and announcements

Limitations of the Calculator

It's important to understand what our calculator cannot account for:

  • Specific Deductions: We allow you to enter deductions, but we cannot verify if they're eligible for your specific situation
  • Tax Credits: Various tax credits may apply that we don't account for
  • Exemptions: Certain income exemptions may apply
  • Withholding Taxes: If taxes are already withheld at source, this affects your final liability
  • Carry Forward Losses: Previous year losses that can be carried forward
  • Special Circumstances: Complex situations like multiple income sources, foreign income, etc.

Accuracy Disclaimer

Estimates Only: Our calculator provides estimates based on standard tax slabs. Actual tax liability may vary based on your specific circumstances, eligible deductions, exemptions, and other factors.

Verification

We strongly recommend:

  • Verifying all calculations with FBR's official resources
